Gaming
Sony announces God Of War III to hit the PS3 next year.
Although we thought it would be eons before Kratos returned to our television sets to rip apart demons and dismember Greek gods, Sony announced that our favorite Spartan will be returning in God Of War III in 2009.

God of War II saw a cliffhanger ending with the Titans climbing up the side of Mt. Olympus to confront to Greek gods in the final battle between the two, with Kratos solidly on the side of the Titans against his father, Zeus.

Combine this with the recently released Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and the Playstation 3 looks to boost its sales by mid 2009.

http://gamesradar.futuregamer.it/upload_images/god%20of%20war%5B041206%5D/god%20of%20war_1%5B041206%5D.jpg Jason Starr GodMode July 25, 2008, 11:25 am www.webchannel24.com 230 Sony, Playstation 3, God of War III, Kratos, video games God Of War III was announced at E3
Resident Evil 5 Gameplay Demo at E3
Gaming
The truly terrifying world of Resident Evil returns to show new gameplay footage at E3.
A few years ago, Resident Evil 4 not only reinvented that franchise, but reinvented the over-the-shoulder shooter realm and the survival horror genre for game fans everywhere. Combined with extremely detailed graphics and a beautiful array of creepy (and downright horrifying) creatures and bosses, RE4 left us with one question ... when is RE5 coming out.

Wait no longer. Capcom debuted new screens and videos for Resident Evil 5, including some interesting hints at the storyline which has been somewhat confusing over the past year. Apparently, the origins of the T-Virus will be explained.

In a demo on GameSpot displays all the new goodies that Capcom has included including co-op. Ammo apparently can be swapped between you and another partner who follows you around during the game, items are destructible, the convoluted menu screens are gone, and there's tons more packed into this game.

What has been shown so far at E3 is quite impressive and we hope to see much more in the months to come until it's eventual release.

http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/RE5.jpg Jason Starr GodMode July 19, 2008, 10:53 am www.webchannel24.com 223 Resident Evil 5, video games, zombies, horror Resident Evil 5 at E3

Prince of Persia gets back to its roots ... well sorta
Ubisoft announced this week that it will release a new Prince of Persia game, titled Prince of Persia: The Fallen King, for the Nintendo DS. This may be concession to Nintendo considering that this year's big Prince of Persia sequel - which will be available on the Playstation 3, XBox 360 and PC - is not going to be available on the Nintendo Wi.

However, Ubisoft has assured Nintendo fan boys that they will have a unique experience all their own on the very capable Nintendo DS.
http://images.g4tv.com/images/blog/2008/06/26/633500972056631433.jpg Mitch Cannon I Love Gaming June 27, 2008, 8:41 am www.webchannel24.com 209 Prince of Persia, prince, video games, Nintendo DS, ubisoft Prince of Persia gets back to its roots ... well sorta
Review: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Gaming
Hideo Kojima delivers the final installment of the Metal Gear Solid series with an awe-inspiring next-generation game that mixes gameplay with epic storytelling in a manner that stirs the soul.
For twenty plus years, Metal Gear Solid has been one of video gaming's premiere series. It's mix of complex (overly complex to some) storylines with innovative gameplay has wowed gamers for years.

In MGS4, the rather long cut scenes - which in the past have been a problem for some players - are now intertwined with the gameplay and are almost seamless when you transition from one to the other. The plot starts with Snake being Old Snake and dealing with the rapid aging effects of Fox Die. Through the game, he meets tons of characters from the past including Meryl, Otacon, Naomi Campbell, the Colonel, and many more. New characters are also introduced.

For the gameplay, the mechanics have been supremely updated. This is a stealth game, and along with the old techniques are some new items like the octo-camo suit which allows you to blend in with almost any environment. The Solid Eye gives greater stats and details for combat and sneaking.

The enemy AI, which has been from poor to great in elements of the series, is phenomenal here. Whether you're sneaking or going into a full on gun battle, the enemies will use tactics and strategy to combat you depending on the environment. In addition to your traditional soldiers, Metal Gear would not be Metal Gear without wickedly odd bosses and the advent of new enemies like the half flesh-half machine walking Geckos or the Frog Men.

Graphically, this game is the best out there to date. Details abound in ruined cities, mechanized weapons, billowing smoke, blood splattered lenses and snowflakes floating on the camera lens. Sound effects and score are excellent as with all Metal Gear games, and the voice acting - although at times overblown (this IS a Hideo Kojima game afterall) - are up to par.

Multiplayer is another aspect of MGS4, and while MGS3 had a version of multiplayer, this is a much improved feature in Metal Gear Solid 4. The pacing is slower than say a Unreal Tournament or Halo, but the core play elements are here. What sets this multiplayer apart is the ability to play a game where there are essentially three sides: two waring factions and one player who plays as Snake. The goal is for the teams to eliminate Snake and each other, the goal for the one user playing as Snake is to capture three dog tags of the waring teams.

http://www.thegamereviews.com/userfiles/image/mgs4boxart.jpg Jason Starr GodMode June 14, 2008, 11:02 pm www.webchannel24.com 200 Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear, Solid Snake, video games, gaming, PS3, Playstation, Hideo Kojima Snake embarks on the fourth and final Metal Gear Solid mission, and it doesn't dissapoint
Editorial: Grand Theft Auto IV Review
Gaming
Without a doubt, despite the delays, Rockstar has upped the ante with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV.
With the original release of Grand Theft Auto IV, the series has been wrapped in praise and controversey. The latest installment will not lack for either.

Niko, the main character for this installment, is an Eastern European immigrant that has come to America seeking the American dream. As with all characters, that means crime. The tongue-in-cheek nature of the series is somewhat missing with a more realistic tone. This may go with the style of the game's graphics.

The detail in this next gen game are way more realistic than the traditional "cartoon" like nature of previous games in the series. Everything from the citizens in the city, advertismenets, buildings, car physics etc. are all upgraded. It's truly the first next gen title that really feels next gen.

The cell phone is part of the game big time! Although at first cumbersome, it is not overwhelming and is not necessary for advancing through the game. The game mechanics are upgraded from previous games, utilizing a cover system ala Gears Of War. Combats is less hack-kneed than before, and with the inclusion of multiplayer, it's now more fun than ever.

Online, you can go against other gamers in the usual online gaming set pieces such as capture the flag, racing or just general chaos. This game has everything and the only real complaint can come from the auto-targeting when shooting. This is a minor complaint though.

Overall, GTA IV is an early contender for game of the year without a doubt.

*****
http://i.testfreaks.com/images/products/600x400/86/grand-theft-auto-iv-ps3.266326.jpg Jason Starr GodMode May 7, 2008, 8:59 pm www.webchannel24.com 167 Grand Theft Auto IV, video games, open world, big games, premiere, Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto IV takes the franchise to the next generation
No God Of War Anytime Soon
Gaming
For God of War fans, it's sad news that the cliffhanger ending of God of War II won't be resolved in a next-gen game anytime soon.
Sony announced that one of it's key franchises - God of War - won't be making it's next generation debut for a good two years (at best) from now, slated for release around Christmas of 2009.

God of War II ended with Kratos and the Titans scaling Mt. Olympus on their way to an epic showdown with the Gods of Olympus. A stunning cinematic hinted at what is to come in the future for the angry Spartan and the gruesome version of Greece that is the world of God of War.

The good news is that the game will be in 1080p, and will feature Sixaxis and rumble support. So, it may be years down the road, but hold on GoW fans, a little patience never hurts.
http://media001.g4tv.com/images/blog/2008/01/23/633366932339088279.jpg Jason Starr GodMode January 23, 2008, 4:29 pm www.webchannel24.com 149 Sony, Playstation, video games, god of war, Kratos, 2009 God Of War III slated for Christmas 2009
Review: Halo 3
Gaming
The final review of Halo 3
First off, I must say that I'm not going to insert some stupid line here like "the day geeks have been waiting for" or "every computer nerd's wet dream comes true". Well, I did, but I'm not going to do it in some "I'm reviewing this but I look down on it" tone. Halo 3 is a national media phenomena that has geeks, nerds, mothers, fathers, athelets, scientists, artists etc. etc. looking forward to playing.

That being said, it's one heck of a ride.

Multiplayer

Arguably, the most interesting part of this game franchise has been the multiplayer mode. Vehicles, larger maps, new weapons, smoother graphics and combat all make this sequel well worth the wait. "Forge" is an object layout editor - you can put things on maps and create what you want in the game space. You can save film of your greatest battle moments. There are tons of new items and possibilities that will keep this multiplayer heavily loaded online for years to come.

The Story

This game picks up right after the cliffhanger of Halo 2. Personally, I'm not so sure why all the anger over the ending of Halo 2 - after Star Wars, the Matrix, Lord of the Rings etc. etc. etc., we should all be well aware of the notion of a cliffhanger in a trilogy. Oh well, I'm not going to ruin the story but it does clear up everything.

New Features

One of the great new additions to this version of Halo is the addition of tools. The bubble shield and airlift tools are among the most liked, but there are many others that make the game replayable.

You can also change the difficulty of the game using "skulls" that you find throughout the game. Co-op mode has four players instead of two now.

Finishing the Fight

There's is way too much to cover (I'm actually going to stop writing now and continue playing multiplayer), but rest assured ... the game with the biggest buzz of the year is certainly worth it. XBox 360 owners, rip out you phone cords, disable your doorbell, remove the battery from your cell phone, and settle in for hours of digital bliss.

Score: Five Stars * * * * *
http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/halo-3-custom-armor.jpg Jason Starr GodMode September 25, 2007, 12:28 pm www.webchannel24.com 115 Master Chief, Halo, Microsfot, XBox, 360, video games, players, first person shooter, gaming, 3 Master Chief's final battle in the Halo franchise?
Sony Poised for Comeback?
Gaming
With all the hype of the upcoming Halo 3 this week, we take a look at games Sony has coming up around the corner.
The Playstation 3 has launched with not-so-impressive results. When the PS2 launched, it had weak competition from Nintendo's GameCube (which didn't even match up hardware wise) and the XBox was a myth at best. Now, since the XBox and the XBox 360 has become the system of choice for hardcore American and European gamers, and the Wii has captured the casual gamer market, Sony is in a tough position.

The 360 launched with a set of good games and continued to release more as time went on. Gears of War is the biggest game on the XBox until September 25 when Halo 3 hits stores. This almost guarantees that Microsoft will have the hottest game of the holiday season in 2007.

But all is not lost for Sony. Two big games are bubbling around the corner for the system, and they look to be big sellers. Heavenly Sword has received early praise and was even voted "Best Fighting Game" by the Game Critics Awards. The title's release will undoubtedly help surge sales of the now lower-in-price PS3.

Then, there's the juggernaut, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots which is the "final" (we've been told, but who ever knows with this series) game in the Metal Gear franchise which has been one of the most successful franchises in video game history. The game is set for release in the early part of 2008.

The performance of these two games in the marketplace will go far to determining whether or not Sony can move from the number three spot in the Console Wars and regain it's position at number one.
http://regmedia.co.uk/2007/03/23/ps3_front_main.jpg Jason Starr GodMode September 24, 2007, 8:46 am www.webchannel24.com 113 Nariko, Playstation 3, PS3, Heavenly Sword, Sony Nariko of Heavenly Sword
Editorial: Will Halo 3 Fall Short?
Gaming
The time has come - Master Chief and the Halo crew set for a huge splash this holiday system. Question is, can it possibly live up to the hype?
Bungie set the video game world on fire with it's XBox release "Halo" some years ago. The game became the standard for First Person Shooters and hundreds of games have copied the Halo formula since then.

Now, it's 2007 and the third game in the series (being called a trilogy now), Halo 3, is set for release this holiday season. XBox 360 owners have waited with anticipation for this latest entry into their beloved franchise. However, with the disappointment some felt with the ending of Halo 2 (a cliffhanger - come on, haven't we realized that's what happens in the second part of a trilogy yet?), the bar has been raised so high for Halo 3 that it's doomed for failure.

From what has been released by Microsoft, the game has not changed its basic dynamics (why mess with a good thing). The multiplayer campaign seems to be vastly improved however, and while the single player story is going to cause some disappointment, the overall gameplay - the most important part - will satisfy gamers and suck hundreds of hours out of any XBox 360 player's life.

An official review of Halo 3 will come once the game has been released.
http://www.gameguru.in/images/halo-3-master-chief-1.jpg Jason Starr GodMode September 15, 2007, 11:29 am www.webchannel24.com 97 Halo 3, XBox 360, Holiday season, 2007, Master Chief, Bungie, Microsoft Master Chief and crew set for a big finale
Violence in gaming ... again
Gaming
Since the days of the first Mortal Kombat, video game violence has been under the microscope for years. It's getting worse.
Okay, so everyone has heard about the graphic sex scene in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Now granted, even though Rockstar Games is known for jumping way over the line, this wasn't as big a deal as Hilary Clinton and others in politics made it out to be. The company wasn't PUSHING graphic sex in the game, it was an unlockable element in the game that due to media publicity was then exposed to everyone.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the media coverage on it, I wouldn't have known it was there. Brings to question who really is doing the most damage here. But this topic has been going on for a long, long time. Mortal Kombat is the most famous target of the censorship crowd. Back in 1991, that game broke new ground with characters that were photo realistic, a dark and moody feel and of course the outlandish violence and blood.

Soon after, the US Government came down hard on the gaming industry, requiring it to police itself more intensely. What we got in the end was the ESRB system of rating games. In fact, the video game ratings system is now actually better than the movie ratings system.

Still, the recent GTA story has started more questioning and proposed laws against the distribution of video games. In all reality, the problem would be stopped at the counter of your locak Electronics Boutique and to a lesser extent by the parents of the "poor targeted children". If EB Games doesn't sell Mature rated games to 14-year-olds, problem solved. If parents don't buy 14-year-olds Mature rated games, problem solved.

I agree with the protection of children from violence and over-the-top language in video games. Anyone with any sense would. However, it seems that those who complain want the rest of us to suffer because of poor parenting and video game store clerks who don't care about what they sell to whom.

I say put the blame where it belongs, not on the consumer of one of the country's few booming markets.
http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2003/all/boxshots2/914983_58437.jpg Tom Joyce Pixelate May 27, 2007, 7:08 pm www.webchannel24.com 1
